Mikoláš Chadima, the band’s leader, singer and saxophone player, is arguably the most interesting personality on the contemporary Czech music scene; his music is “blackness ten times black”, to quote Hermann Melville; the fact that many of MCH Band lyrics are written in German (by a Czech-German poet Ivan Wernisch) only strengthens the effect.
