Wow Federation were a post-punk band formed in Oxford 1978.

Members of the band included at various times Millree Hughes (www.millree.com), James Rogers, Carl Fysh (Brother beyond), Brian Warner, Paul Conneally (Dum Dum Dum and Little Onion), Andy Sizer, William Buchanan, Andy Mason, Ian Warner.

The band formed Roccoco Records and released the single 'Yellow Telephone' by Wow Federation and recordings by the Jazz Insects produced by Dennis Bovell featuring Matt Black who would go on to form coldcut

Nick Horton on drums, Ian Warner on vocals and Andy Love on bass joined in January 1980, following the departure of Carl, Andy and Paul. Vicky Richardson on sax and clarinet also joined the group. Wow Federation played around Oxford for a couple of years, most notably at Scamps and The Coven nightclubs, and built up a following of people with similar tastes in music, attitude and bizarre clothing. Their music was a strange mixture of retro pop, ethnic disco and free-form jazz, often augmented by strings (Liza Widowson and Boz Warnock on violin, Debbie Keeping on cello). Rococo Records was formed by Nick Horton and the group recorded their first single (Yellow Telephone/Tree Credibility) in the summer of 1981. John Peel picked up on the record and played it a few times on his BBC Radio 1 programme, introducing them with the line.." here's a band from Oxford called Wow Federation and quite frankly, they sound like the sort of people who breastfeed their babies in restaurants.." Wow Federation also played at Winchester College of Art and, in what proved the be their last live outing, The Fridge in Brixton, London.
