I performed this hybrid mix live in February at a DIY show in Uptown NYC. It was cold outside, I wanted to cover some of the happier and high energy sounding batida to get people thawed up and dancing. This set is pulls from some of my biggest inspirations in the Batida scene, such as the artist of Príncipe Discos, to greater diaspora of Angolan-Portuguese artists and talented producers of this amazing bounce. It pulls from those inspirations both in terms of the selections and also the sometimes hectic style of mixing, and really using the mixer like an instrument itself and including some live playing on my drum machine. I also have a few of my own demos in here, some of which include my melodic interests in desi music culture, eclectic samples and 2000s nostalgia while keeping the drums going with the goal of joy and movement.
