Fricke accquired one of the first Moog II synthesisers in Europe in 1969, and thus Popol Vuh began as a pioneering electronic music act. Eventually Fricke and his collective abandoned electronic for expansive accoustic arrangements inspired by pre-Colombian American music, Tibetan music, African music and beyond, often working in tandem with another singular German auteur – filmmaker Werner Herzog.
