NTS Guide to: Armadillo World Headquarters
An hour long ride through the music orbiting Austin's famous venue and beer garden, Armadillo World Headquarters. Opening its doors in the summer of 1970, "The 'Dillo" as it would become affectionately known, was ground zero for the counter-cultural energy that Austin would become famous for, where the free wheeling spirit of California rock met the Texas roots country sound.
Over its ten-year history the landmark venue played host to artists as diverse as Ravi Shankar, Jerry Garcia, and Leon Russell.
