NTS Guide to: Qawwali

Qawwali is intended to act as a bridge towards the experience of Sufi mystical love; a shared experience where the use of religious chants and chanted poetry, build in energy and tempo to induce a trance-like, hypnotic state, affecting both the musicians and audience resulting in a captivating musical performance transcending cultural boundaries.

Fusing Persian, Arabic, Turkic and Indian traditions in the late 13th century, the creation of Qawwali is credited to the singer, musician, poet and scholar, Amir Khusrow
