The Year Punk broke … in Spain

Take a step back to a turning point in time. Just as Sonic Youth was unveiling their iconic documentary from that whirlwind tour, a parallel musical landscape was beginning to bloom in Spain. It was a scene born from the same restless spirit: a mix of rebellion and trash culture that followed a path already being blazed in the UK and the US. The spark was kept alive by MTV, which filled our screens with the sights and sounds of inspiring new bands, alongside standout local shows like Plastic on public television…. It was also the era that witnessed the first stirrings of festival culture, a movement previously unknown in Spain. The Spanish "juventud sónica" took it all in, finding their own voice and embarking on a journey that would define their own unique path.
