SOVIET AFTERGLOW w/ DARI MOS
I grew up in Belarus, on Soviet and Russian rock, post-punk, and melancholic pop, before immigrating at 16. Years later, working as a music photographer between France and California, often drawn to women artists, I returned to those sounds through a women-only mix. I was thinking of Yanka Dyagileva’s poetry, and of Joanna Stingray’s role in bringing Soviet music beyond the Iron Curtain and it felt right. This mix is a witness to what brought me up and what still carries me forward. I hope that, as a listener, you get caught in that same wave.
