A band out of East Los Angeles. Formed in 1964, and played till 2003. Made a 45 record in 1965 called, "Someday I'm Gonna Get You" and won on "American Bandstand" as best new record the week it premiered. Thee Counts opened up for The Buffalo Springfield, The Fifth Dimension, The Turtles, and other bands of that era. Played at The Whiskey, Hollywood Palladium, and many other clubs and venues all over the So. California area. East Los Angeles had many excellent bands with their own style and sound. Thee Midniters, The Blendells, Cannonball and the Headhunters (opened up for The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl), The Ambertones, and many more. Many articles and documentaries classify this era as the Chicano Rock era (into the mid 1960's) in East Los Angeles. During those early years, East Los Angeles was a melting pot with many different nationalities, and races. If you care to research this very special era, you will see members of the different bands, were from many races. There were many Latin people, but there were also many other nationalities and races. That is what made East Los Angeles such a special place during that era. Everyone, basically got along no matter what race or nationality you were. Getting back to the music, it was very special time, and ELA had it's own sound. The Beatles was like a wave that effected the ELA sound. The draft during the Viet Nam era broke up many of the bands, as the members were drafted into the military, including myself. In the years to follow, East Los Angeles did increase Latin population, and continued to bring forth very special music.
