Luanda

An hour of '70s Angolan Semba & Mergenue, two distinct styles which emerged during Angola’s liberation movement against Portuguese colonial rule through Angolan records labels such as Rebita & Merengue.

Glasgow
23:00 - 01:00

Optimo is JG Wilkes & JD Twitch; record label, and longstanding Glaswegian party. You can expect a lot from their new monthly slot, sure to dig up some obscurities from post-punk, new wave, EBM, house and techno. Bags of unreleased stuff, too.

Atomic Forest

Atomic Forest

Atomic Forest has been played on NTS shows including Loose Bones, with Mary Long first played on 9 February 2014.

Psychedelic rock band from 1970s India. The Atomic Forest’s mix of blistering, fuzzy rock and synth-lead funk inspired collectors the world over to fork over thousands of dollars for original copies of their solitary release, Obession ‘77 . Part of the interest certainly stemmed from its liberal doses of searing fuzz guitar. Part of it sprung from the oddity of it all: India, a country that had, quite literally, churned out tens of thousands of albums during psych- and hard-rock’s heyday, only produced this one, lonely psychedelic album? Part of it sprung from the album’s rarity: unknown for years, Obsession ’77 suddenly became a top want on every global-rock collector’s short-list.
