modulator are a band that still unflinchingly keep their focus on experimentation but they do it somewhere beyond genre - interdisciplinary, brisk and free. Here chanson is placed equally alongside a guitar storm, a moog bass, a vibraphone, VST-plugins and polyrhythmic battery. In the meantime they have released many marvelous little EPs, composed the soundtrack for an arte-tv production, soldered cables and gadgets for music production, while waiting for the next train heading for research. They are to be named in one breath with Masha Qrella and her bands Mina or Contriva, Broadcast and naturally Stereolab. And hopefully in a short while we will hear about how they have made it.
'1 node analogue traveller' (nrko cd01): Maybe it isnt a coincidence that this EP was released almost at the same time as JaKönigJas album EBBA. Only that JaKönigJa retreat to a white room while modulator hang around the physics lab to toss an old Warp sampler over to the professor so that soldering new ideas doesnt become unnecessarily tentative. Chuck it in prof! and we dont have to mention that were dealing with a first class state of the art Kraut-Jazz-Electronic-Chanson, do we?
