Malaisa

Malaisa

Malaisa has been played on NTS shows including Supporter Radio: Heatwave , with Più Potente (Jazz Version) first played on 21 August 2024.

Born in Vicenza and raised in Bassano del Grappa, Malaisa came to Hip Hop vis-à-vis Soul and R&B composing and singing originally in English. Around 1994, she joined up with the group Fly Nemesis Squad.

Malaisa struck out on her own and began to compose songs in Italian as opposed to English. Her lyrics began to address immediate concerns, from her mother's factory job to personal introspection. She began to performan with DJ Noia and El Pachà, a Dominican living in Italy. The trio became known as Mala Raza and opened for a number of established artists like Assalti Frontali's 1995 tour.

Malaisa worked on a number of projects with progressive musical and political venues — she organized a Hip Hop event for the organization Antirazzista at the centro sociali Ya Basta in Vicenza in 1997, she hosted radio programs on Radio Sherwood playing music from the Black Diaspora, and helped produced a weekly event at the centro sociale Stella Rossa in Bassano del Grappa where Bassi Maestro, Cor Veleno, Er Piotta, and others performed.

You can check out Malaisa in the Manetti Brothers' video of La Comitiva's tune "Nottetempo, also starring Ice One and Frankie Hi NRG.

Malaisa signed with Virgin Music Italy and went into the recording studio with producer Ice One. Problems ensued with the label and Malaisa was able to get herself released from the contract. The results of her collaboration with Ice One is Metamorfosi di Liriche.
