Kasey Cisyk was an American singer of Ukrainian descent, known for her versatile voice that spanned across opera, pop, and folk genres. A classically trained soprano, she achieved notable success both in her native United States and in Ukraine. She started her career with opera, performing with various companies, but she became more widely recognized for her work in commercial advertising. Cisyk was the iconic voice behind the famous "You Deserve a Break Today" jingle for McDonald's and also recorded well-known jingles for brands like Coca-Cola, Ford, and Sears. Her pure, bright voice made her a beloved figure in the world of commercial music.
In addition to her work in advertising, Kasey released two albums of Ukrainian folk music: Kvitka: Songs of Ukraine (1980) and Kvitka: Two Colors (1989). These albums celebrated her Ukrainian heritage and garnered a dedicated following among Ukrainians worldwide. The albums feature traditional Ukrainian songs, reinterpreted with her unique vocal style and sensitivity. Her work in Ukrainian music helped preserve and popularize the country's folk traditions and remains influential to this day.
Throughout her career, Cisyk collaborated with a variety of artists, including her work on soundtracks for films such as You Light Up My Life (1977), for which she provided the singing voice for the lead character, receiving widespread acclaim. Sadly, her life and career were cut short when she passed away from breast cancer in 1998, but her legacy endures, both through her commercial music and her heartfelt contributions to Ukrainian diaspora music.
