Snorkel

Snorkel has been played on NTS in shows including Floating World Music., featured first on 29 October 2015. Songs played include One Long Conundrum, Clouded Chords and Dead Skin.

Snorkel can refer to multiple artists:

A South London-based collective

An Australian composer and sound designer

An American noise-rock band from Kalamazoo, Michigan

Snorkel are an avant-whatever collective exploring the nether regions between the groove and free improvisation; sub-aquatic observations of dub, jazz, afro-beat, krautrock and electronica.

This South London-based collective, whose members come from different corners of the alternative scene, bring together the tactics of improvisation, electronica, and sound art. Propelled by the afro-kraut, jazz-dub leanings of drummer Frank Byng and the rhythms generated by cheap samplers and drum machines, SNORKEL revel in the joy of psychedelic repetition throwing in elastic interruptions on guitar, analogue and digital synthesisers, trombone, live samples and vocals.

“the ghostly jam of Miles Davis, Sonic Youth and Lee Perry smeared… all over our asses”. **- Paul Hawkins

"…the spirit of Ege Bamyasi-era Can looms large" - The Wire
