Sodom is a German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen, formed in 1982. The band has undergone numerous lineup changes, with bassist and vocalist Tom Angelripper remaining the only constant member. The current lineup includes Angelripper, guitarists Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik—who was a member of Sodom from 1987 to 1989 and rejoined in 2018—and Yorck Segatz, as well as drummer Toni Merkel. Sodom is recognized as one of the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash metal, alongside Kreator, Destruction, and Tankard. The band significantly influenced the German black metal scene and is regarded as a pioneer of death metal. According to Mike McPadden, Sodom, described as the most Venom-inspired of the German "Three Kings" (with Destruction and Kreator being the other two), fused thrash and death metal into a distinctive and intense sound.

Sodom has released sixteen studio albums, three live albums, two compilation albums, and seven EPs. Their third studio album, "Agent Orange" (1989), marked their first major commercial success, becoming one of the earliest thrash metal albums to enter the German charts, where it peaked at number 36. Their most recent studio album, "The Arsonist," was released on June 27, 2025. With over two million records sold, Sodom ranks among the best-selling thrash metal bands of all time.
