Earth Quake was formed in 1966, originally a white blues band known as Purple Earthquake, and by the early 1970's were better known as a power pop band based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their 1st LP came out in 1971 on A&M records and they had music featured in the 1972 Steve McQueen film The Getaway.

They were managed by Matthew King Kaufman and soon formed their own indie label Berserkley Records after neither band or label felt the 2nd LP on A&M was handled well. They issued their 1st indie single in 1973, a cover version of the Easybeats' "Friday On My Mind". Earth Quake soon backed Jonathan Richman on his 1st version of Roadrunner, and Greg Kihn got his start singing back up for Earth Quake. After releasing 6 LP's between 1971-79, opening for many mainstream acts and finding regional popularity, Earth Quake were never able to obtain national success and disbanded by the early 1980's.

The band members were: John Doukas (vocals) Robbie Dunbar (guitar, piano, vocals) Stan Miller (bass, vocals) Steve Nelson (percussion, vocals)
