Melvin Kenneth "Mel" Smith (born 3 December 1952 - died 19 July 2013) is an English comedian, actor, film director, writer and producer best known for his work on the sketch comedy shows Not the Nine O'Clock News and Alas Smith and Jones.

In 1987, he recorded a single with Kim Wilde for Comic Relief: a cover of the Christmas song "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" with some extra comedy lines written by Smith and Jones. It reached number 3 in the UK charts.

He released a Christmas single in 1991 called "Another Blooming Christmas".
