José Miguel Moreno is one of the top leading specialists of historical plucked string instruments. Co-founder of the Glossa early music label, he has before recorded with Teresa Berganza for Philips and with Hespèrion XX for Astrée. Concerts, masterclasses and conferences have taken him all over the world, including America and Australia. With his Ensemble La Romanesca he has recorded two CDs for Glossa. In 1998 he founded a new group, Orphénica Lyra, which focuses on the Spanish repertoire of the Renaissance and Baroque.
With his wife, Lourdes Uncilla, Moreno is doing extensive research on the building of ancient instruments of the lute and guitar family, which can be heard brought into practice on all his recordings for Glossa. Recent discoveries include the use of the 'théorbe de pièces' for the solo repertoire in French Baroque.
