Vertical Hold was an American 'urban contemporary' / R&B trio, made up of Angie Stone (vocals), David Bright (drums) and Willie Bruno (keyboards). They released two albums (A Matter of Time in 1993 and Head First in 1995) before disbanding. The first album spawned the popular single, 'Seems You're Much Too Busy'. Front woman Angie Stone (1961-2025) would move on to a very successful career as a solo soul artist, starting 1999.

Vertical Hold was an Australian rock band that had considerable success in their home state of South Australia, including #1 and #3 singles on the Adelaide charts between 1980 and 1985. However, the group had little success elsewhere. Their only album, the eponymous Vertical Hold, came out in 1984. Renamed The Gladiators in 1985, they featured on the RCA compilation LP S.A. Brewing with the song 'Strange Love'. Lead singer Mick Michalopoulos died in 2016, aged 60.
