Tom Smith (born 29 April 1981 in Stroud, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom) is best known as the lead vocalist for the English band Editors, but he also writes and records solo material. His debut solo single, 'Lights of New York City' came out in June 2025, with his debut full-length, There Is Nothing in the Dark That Isn't There in the Light, following in December.
The only recording artist to appear on both NPR's Sound and Spirit and The Dr. Demento Show, Tom Smith is the quintessential American geek rocker, combining high-energy folk rock, SF/fantasy, popular culture, progressive politics, cartoon voices, unbelievably bad puns, and the occasional recipe into a show you will not forget. He has won thirteen Pegasus Awards for Excellence in Filking and a spot in the Filk Hall of Fame. His most recent projects include iTom, releasing a free song every week, and The Funny Music Project.
