Raphael Wallfisch

Raphael Wallfisch

Raphael Wallfisch has been played on NTS shows including Hustlekat, with From Jewish Life: Prayer, Supplication & Jewish Song first played on 19 November 2019.

Raphael Wallfisch is a British cellist.

Wallfisch was born in London in 1953 into a family of distinguished musicians, his father the pianist Peter Wallfisch and his mother the cellist Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, who is one of the last known surviving members of the Girl orchestra of Auschwitz. It quickly became clear in Wallfisch's childhood that he would dedicate his life to the cello, and thus he was provided, from the outset, with the guidance of such teachers as Amaryllis Fleming, Amadeo Baldovino, and Derek Simpson. Today, Wallfisch is in high demand as a performer and a teacher throughout the world, and in particular, he has been appointed to the faculties of the Konservatorium Zürich Winterthur and the Musikhochschule Mainz. A prizewinner at the International Gaspar Cassadó Cello Competition in Florence, Wallfisch has made CD recordings of almost the entire cello repertoire, including works by Britten, Finzi, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky.
