Jesper Koch studied composition at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and Aarhus with Andy Pape, Colin Mathews, Karl Aage Rasmussen, Ib Nørholm and Olav Anton Thommesen. In 1988 he was awarded the Carl Nielsen Bursary of Honour, and in 1992 he was the first Danish composer to win the 1st Prize of the category 'Composers below 30' at Rostrum in Paris with the work Ice-Breaking. Jesper Koch was awarded a three-year grant from the Danish Art Council in 1994, and in 1997 he made his debut recital from the The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Aarhus and Copenhagen. Jesper Koch was awarded the Scholarship of the Danish Composers’ Society in 2001, and he is the composer-in-residence of the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra 2001-05.
