There are two Finnish groups called Charlies.
The Charlies were a psychedelic hard rock trio from Lahti that played from 1964-1975. They were ”Heavy bluestrio” that played long improvisational, over ten minute drum and bass solos which were quite rare during those times in Finland. Musical influences primarily came from Cream and Jimi HendrixThe Charlies was founded by bassist Kari “Pitkä” Lehtinen and guitarist Eero ”Ebro” Ravi in the year 1964. Other band members were singer/drummer Ermo “Eko” Sivonen, singer Juha Saali and solo-guitarist Jarmo “Rödis” Jääskeläinen which soon after disbanded himself from the group.
Band got their name from Kari ”Pitkä” Lehtinen’s nick name from that time ”Charlie” and Juha Saali’s surname which is pronounced as same.
After the year 1968 the band had several lineup changes and was shrinked to as trio which contained Ebro, Pitkä and singer/drummer Vesa “Wellu” Lehtinen.
