Chubby Checker

Chubby Checker has been played on NTS over 10 times, featured on 14 episodes and was first played on 12 December 2012.

Chubby Checker (born Ernest Evans; October 3, 1941) is an American rock and roll singer and dancer. He is known for popularizing several dance styles, including the Twist, through his 1960 hit cover of Hank Ballard & The Midnighters' song "The Twist," and the Pony, with his 1961 cover of "Pony Time." His biggest UK hit, "Let's Twist Again," was released in 1962. That year, he also popularized "Limbo Rock," originally an instrumental by the Champs, by adding lyrics and promoting its associated Limbo dance. Checker introduced additional dance styles, including the Fly.

In September 2008, "The Twist" was named the most popular single to have appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 since the chart's debut in 1960, a distinction it retained in an August 2013 update. In 2014, Checker was inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame, and he was selected for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025.
