Space Art

Space Art has been played on NTS over 30 times, featured on 38 episodes and was first played on 20 October 2012.

Formed in 1977 in France, Space Art was an electronic duo founded by keyboardist Dominique ‘Terracota’ Perrier and drummer Roger Rizzitelli. Originally calling themselves Moon, the duo had changed their name to Space Art by the time of the release of their 1977 self-titled debut album. The success of the album paved the way for Trip in the Center Head (1979) and Play Back (1980). The group’s trio of albums had sold a combined total of three million copies and they seemed destined for bigger things in 1981 when they supported electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre during his Concerts in China tour. However, the group didn’t capitalize on their success and decided to break up instead. Dominique Perrier continued to create music and collaborate with other artists throughout the rest of the 1980s. In 1992, he formed the electronic rock band Stone Age, who released five albums over the next 30 years. Original Space Art drummer Roger Rizzitelli died on May 5, 2010, which inspired Dominique Perrier to compile a tribute album to his former musical partner. Released under the band name Dominique Perrier Project, the Space Art Tribute (2012) album was a success and reignited interest in the duo’s back catalog. The compilation On Ne Dira Rien - Best of All Times (2016) featured some of Space Art’s best known tracks including "Onyx," "Odyssey," "Nous sais tout," and "Speedway." With interest in the group at an all-time high, Perrier decided to reform Space Art with original drummer Roger Rizzitelli’s son Tommy and released the albums Interviews (2020) and Personal Duty (2023). Dominique Perrier died on October 4, 2023, at the age of 73.
