Khôra

Khôra has been played on NTS shows including Fifth World w/ Ian Kim Judd, with A Countenance Of Meshing Waves first played on 17 March 2021.

Khôra is a project of Toronto based musician Matthew Ramolo. Khôra's first record, Silent Your Body Is Endless, was self-released in 2009 and subsequently re-edited and re-released in the context of Constellation Records' opening instalment of Musique Fragile in the fall of 2010. Khôra's music combines sonic textures derived from acoustic, electronic, and field sources with unique and evocative melodic and harmonic figures. The music hones the nature of its individual sound sources and lays them plainly but suggestively next to each other allowing interesting timbral/harmonic resonances and correspondences to show through. Many of the compositions on Silent Your Body Is Endless depict or intimate the transformation of stable meter, melody, and harmony into a wash of drones and field recordings where rhythm becomes a by-product of subtle, long repetition and the composed blocks of music surrounding the tangled, improvised landscapes.
