Uncanny Alliance

Uncanny Alliance

Uncanny Alliance has been played on NTS shows including The Virtual Womb Network w/ Maylee Todd & MALOO, with I Got My Education (Bootleggers Response) first played on 1 April 2021.

Uncanny Alliance was a house music duo consisting of producer Brinsley Evans and female vocalist E.V. Mystique from New York City.

They first gained attention when their song "I Got My Education" was released to clubs in 1992. The song was a response song to the ubiquitous Crystal Waters song "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)". After the song became popular in clubs, several record labels got into a bidding war to sign them. They ultimately signed with A&M Records, and in 1994, their album "The Groove Won't Bite" was released. Aside from "I Got My Education", the album did spawn one additional hit, the song "I'm Beautiful (Damnit)!"

The band has subsequently dropped out of sight, with no additional recordings. Despite sustained interest in the songs, their CD has gone out of print.

Trivia

Bette Midler performed a cover version of "I'm Beautiful (Damnit)!" for her 1998 release entitled Bathhouse Betty.
