Sagenhaft is a dungeon synth project from Naples, Italy, founded in 1994 by Gianluca Martucci (also founder of the ritual ambient projects Urna and Il Prato dei Desideri). The main intent was to create atmospheric music inspired by the magical atmosphere of ancient legends lost in time, making palpable the sensations emanating from simple melodies and yet full of exciting suggestions. In 1995 Gianluca Martucci was joined by Sergio Mazza, who wrote a text, or rather, a story that would then be divided into four of the six pieces of the first Sagenhaft demo, "The Legend of the Forgotten Reign", recorded between 24th and 26th December 1996, with the use of a keyboard played by Gianluca, and the narration of Sergio, all recorded live. The demo was released in 600 copies on Ordo Obscuri Domini. In 1998 Sagenhaft composed a new track titled "The Book", which published on the "Intimations of Immortality Vol. 4" compilation, produced by Energeia. The vocals were performed by a female vocalist, Antonella, who helps to give the song a mystical aura. In March 2001 Sagenhaft released "Lapideus Liber", a demo tape consisting of five instrumental pieces, composed and played by Gianluca, and inspired by the great work of Fulcanelli.
