Justis Brokenrope (Sičháŋǧu Lakȟóta) is a musician and educator currently residing in Bdé Óta Othúŋwe, Mní Sóta (Minneapolis, Minnesota). Wathéča Radio is an offshoot of Wathéča Records, a label and archival project focused on North American indigenous artists who were often overlooked in the canons of rock, folk, and country music. Brokenrope hosts his radio shows completely in Dakhóta, the eastern dialect of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (the seven Lakota and Dakota tribal nations), and the original language of the land he presently resides on. Gassy’s NTS transmissions are radiophonic arrays of old and new soundwaves, spanning the psychedelic, bass dubs, synth odysseys and rave memories. Simply add a pinch of special herbs and spices and bring to the boil.

Charlie Hilton

Charlie Hilton

Charlie Hilton has been played on NTS in shows including Okonkole Y Trompa , featured first on 16 June 2021. Songs played include Palana.

Charlie Hilton is best known for fronting Blouse — the Portland band whose most recent album was released in 2013 — but she’s striking out as a solo artist with a debut of her very own. It’s called Palana and was produced by Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait, save for one track that was done by Woods’ Jarvis Taveniere with background support from none other than Mac DeMarco.
