Ferren "Coco" Lee (李美林 Pinyin: Lǐ Měilín; also 李玟 Lǐ Wén) (17 January 1975 - 5 July 2023) was a C-pop, Hip-Hop, Pop and R&B singer-songwriter, record producer and actress who has also recorded albums in English. contributed to several movies and represented internationally-known products. She was the only Asian music artist to have multiple Top 3 hit singles on the MTV Asia Hitlist. In 2001, "Asia Weekly" named Coco Lee as one of the most powerful people in Asia on their Power 50 list.
Coco Lee was born in Hong Kong with ancestry from Harbin, China. Her father died before she was born. Lee moved with her mother and sister to California at age 10 and went through school while experimenting with her singing voice and following her older sisters in entering several local singing contests. After her high school graduation in 1993 she took a holiday in Hong Kong, and while there she came runner-up in a major singing talent quest. The following day she was approached by local record label Fancy Pie Records, recording four studio albums with them in 1994-95 before being picked up in 1996 by Sony who have continued to represent her until 2008.
CoCo sang the theme song "A Love Before Time" for the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She received worldwide exposure when she performed the song live at the 2001 Academy Awards ceremony.
Lee followed up the success of the "Just No Other Way" album with subsequent releases such as "You and Me" (2000), "Promise Coco" (2001), "Exposed" (2005) and "Just Want You" (2006).
In August 2009, Lee issued her Mandarin album, "East To West". The album and its singles became a success. She kicked off the "East2West" World Concert Tour at the Taipei Arena on March 27, 2010. On July 3 and 4 2010, Lee appeared at the Encore Theatre at Wynn Casino in Las Vegas, U.S.
