Samira Tawfik سميرة غسطين كريمونة (Samīra Ġusṭīn Karīmūna) is a Lebanese singer and actress. Samira Tawfik was born in 1935 and began her career singing in major theatre productions in Beirut at the age of 13. She worked in Jordanian radio starting in the 1960s, distinguishing herself from her peers by singing Bedouin songs, a style that she became known for throughout her career. Tawfik worked with a number of leading composers including Melham Barakat, Elias El Rahbani, Rafik Hobeika and Philemon Wehbe. With regard to cinema, Tawfik starred in several films during the sixties and seventies, including “Ataab” (Reprimand), “Hosna El Bedawi” (Hosna the Bedouin), “Aroos min Damashq” (Groom from Damascus) and “Eyam fi London” (London Days).
