The Maids

The Maids has been played on NTS in shows including Manila Times w/ Vex Ruffin & Possiblemusic, featured first on 4 September 2021. Songs played include Back To Bataan.

The Maids were an American garage punk band from Berkley, California, established in 1977 and disbanding in 1979. They had a minor reputation based on their DIY single they issued in 1979. It features the sometimes covered “Back to Bataan” with “I Do I Do.” Originally pressing between 100-200 copies total, the record has since become legendary among punk rock fans and record collectors. The Maids’ reputation had been furthered following a series of bootleg records that originated in New York in 1988 titled Killed by Death. With “Bataan” appearing on KBD Vol. 7 and “I Do I Do” on Vol. 18. On June 21st, 2000, the singer and guitarist John McCormick (credited as John Ritalin on Maids In Bataan) later published an article on LA Weekly telling the story of The Maids and discussing the newfound interest in the group. He even went on to claim that drummer Mark Ryken still possessed hundreds of copies of the original pressings of the Maids In Bataan record and that there was unreleased material (rehearsal tapes). There have yet to be any reissues of Maids In Bataan or unreleased material from the band compiled.
