Tim Oliver

Tim Oliver has been played on NTS shows including The NTS Breakfast Show w/ Flo, with Turn Me On ("O" Mix) first played on 15 December 2021.

Tim was born in 1972 in Brentwood, Essex. His mother, a professional pianist, soon inspired him to take up piano and violin at the age of 6. By the time he was a teenager he was winning competitions, and was enrolled in the prestigious Trinity College of Music.

Tim gained his degree in music in 1994 at the respected Colchester Institute where he started to work creatively with professional session musicians and artists. Varied work followed: writing and arranging for string orchestras, recording in the famous Abbey Road, arranging and directing for the long standing BBC series Songs of Praise, and as musical director for the hit West End show, “Taboo”.

Drawing on his classical education, as well as a love of pop, funk, electronica, gospel and prog rock , Tim has spent many years programming, playing, producing and arranging a huge variety of styles, laying a foundation for an expansive musical canvas. He has a particular talent for all things lush, moody and atmospheric.

As a TV and film composer Tim has written for a wide variety of projects, including three episodes of the BBC’s acclaimed and long running documentary series Horizon, Channel 5’s hit game show Don’t Stop Believing; this year’s ‘Summer Song’ for C Beebies; the award winning animation, Little Numba, and Giles Borg’s short film Home. He also has just begun work with advertising giant, McCann Erickson London and continues to write television library music albums for Altitude Music.

As well as a composer, Tim also has a successful career as a keyboard player performing with top artists such as Lady Gaga, Pixie Lott, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Boy George, Neneh Cherry, Mavis Staples, Thunder and Alexandra Burke. He has played all over the world from Japan to Dubai in venues as diverse as London's O2 to Glastonbury, where his set with ‘Get Cape’ last year was nominated for Best Live Set in the 2010 UK festival awards. As such, Tim has also had numerous TV appearances on programmes such as ‘Friday Night with Jonathan Ross’ , ‘Top of the Pops’, ’The One Show‘ “This Morning”, “The Graham Norton Show”, ‘TFI Friday’, and is a track programmer for the ITV prime-time Saturday night show, ‘Sing If You Can’

Tim has also recently completed work on his solo project World Without End, to be released soon.
