The Wild Flowers has been played on NTS shows including Yesterday's News, with Melt Like Ice first played on 12 January 2022.

Coming from Wolverhampton, England, The Wild Flowers were chiefly inspired by New York punk rock, especially Television and Ramones. The band's original membership included guitarist/vocalist Neil Cook, guitarist Dave Newton, bassist Mark Alexander, and drummer Dave Fisher, and this lineup recorded an LP titled The Joy of It All for the small Reflex label in 1984. Newton left soon afterwards to form the Mighty Lemon Drops, and it took the Wild Flowers two years to regain their footing. With new guitarist Dave Atherton, they recorded two independent singles in 1986, which were included on the following year's Dust. Choosing to concentrate on breaking in America, the Wild Flowers became the first British band signed to the hard rock indie Slash in 1988 and released Sometime Soon, whose bitterly heartbroken lyrics had become a band trademark. That trend continued on 1990's Tales Like These, which featured new drummer Simon Atkins.
