Sasami

Sasami has been played on NTS shows including Holliday Show w/ Skinny Girl Diet, with Make It Right first played on 1 March 2022.

Sasami Ashworth (born June 23, 1990) is an American musician, composer and producer based in California. Raised primarily in Los Angeles, she comes from a multicultural background: her mother is ethnically Korean and was born in Japan, while her father is of Western descent.

She studied French horn and music education at the Eastman School of Music, graduating in 2012. After her studies she returned to Los Angeles, working in various capacities: scoring films and commercials, arranging and performing horns and strings for studio albums, teaching music, and performing with orchestras and rock bands.

In the mid-2010s Sasami joined the rock band Cherry Glazerr as a keyboardist and synth player, helping to tour and record with them before launching her solo career. Her solo debut album, Sasami, was released on March 8 2019 by Domino Recording Company. On this album she wrote, arranged and produced much of the material herself, blending her classical training with indie rock and shoegaze-influenced textures. Her second album, Squeeze, came out in 2022 and marked a shift toward heavier rock and industrial-metal influences. In March 2025 she released her third studio album, Blood on the Silver Screen, which expanded her sound further into pop and collaborative production.

Sasami is recognized for her multi-instrumentalism (including vocals, guitar, keyboards and French horn), her production and arrangement work, and her ability to traverse and meld genres—from orchestral composition to indie rock to heavier and more pop-oriented forms. Her upbringing and background have also informed her artistic identity. She has spoken about her Korean-Japanese-American cultural heritage, and how it shaped her approach to music and self-expression.

In addition to her own records, she has contributed to other artists’ albums (horn and string parts, arrangements, production) and has built a reputation within the Los Angeles music community both as a collaborator and as a solo artist.
