A bi-montly collage of acoustic and electronic sound in our current orbit. Probs seasonal. Sometimes fickle.

23:00 - 01:00

Two hours of low end theorising from the hip hop and electronic label, and spiritual home of LA's deeply influential "beat scene". Featuring music from the breadth of the label's roster including Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Ras G, Kamasi Washington and many more. Selected by NTS.

Thando

Thando

Thando has been played on NTS in shows including Straight Honey, featured first on 11 August 2018. Songs played include Happy and My People.

Thando is an evocative singer songwriter raised in the suburbs of Canberra. After relocating to Melbourne in 2011, she's has fronted Dub Reggae outfit Echo Drama and played in Sol Nation with members of Painters and Dockers and the Dili Allstars. She has set out to create a live show that pulls audiences in and leaves them wanting more. Her onstage presence is "worth the ticket price just to witness the soaring voice and audacious performance" - Herbert, Herald Sun. Audiences can expect modern soul and R&B mixed with raw funk, heavy bass lines and a three-piece backing vocal ensemble.

Citing Jill Scott and Alicia Keys as major influences, Thando's electronic take on R&B ballads compliment "evocative song writing that has placed her in a league all her own," - Ms Hennesey Speaks Blog.

From releasing her single "Won’t You Be Mine", touring the East Coast, making her professional theatre debut as Effie White in StageArt’s Dreamgirls and ushering the new year with a show for Multicultural Arts Victoria’s NYE celebrations at Federation Square to more than 100,000 Melbournians, Thando finally released her long awaited release of her debut EP Digital Love Letters in June 2016.
