Starting his music career in various college rock & soul bands, London-born Steve Young aka Scarper became ever fascinated with the endless possibilities of electronic music, and made the move to production whilst at university.
Inspired initially by ambient-techno (particularly from the likes of Aphex, FSOL & The Orb), he also acquired a taste for Electro, Techno & Jungle at various London raves & parties in the early noughties. His productions range from mellow, ambient soundscapes to electro-funk & bleep-and-bass techno.
His moody techno track 'Hydromancer' got picked up by Italian label NOIA, but a longtime ambition to start his own label came to fruition in 2012 when he set up 'Plexus Records' with friend & fellow artist Lawrence Pearce aka 'Pause'. His first proper release was 'Unfurl EP', which gained him fans such as Mark Archer & Jon Kennedy. A year later, 'Hypnophoniac' was released, complete with a remix courtesy of electro legend 'DMX Krew'. Fast forward to 2016, and news of his debut album began to surface when single 'Lacuna' was released alongside a stunning video created by motion graphics designer 'Letty Fox'. His debut album 'Warmer Squares' was released in April '17 to a warm and positive reception, winning over fans as wide reaching as Marcel Dettman & Dj Food, and picked up for the Nemone show on BBC 6Music. Across the 11 tracks, Scarper explores ambient, techno, breakbeat, rave & downtempo beats, all with a strong emphasis on melody.
