He recalls being introduced to House music in high school, when his girlfriend pulled up blasting Crystal Waters’ Gypsy Woman. The sound wasn’t unfamiliar to Jalen, whose grandmother and uncle were gospel singers in the famed Zion Harmonizers. Gypsy Woman represented a new context for a familiar feeling. Quickweave has been honing a sound which centers feminine energy backed by tough, swung drums.
