In the immediate years following her husband's death, Alice Coltrane underwent a challenging personal journey, finally emerging from emotional turmoil when she was introduced to guru Swami Satchidananda in the early 1970s. By 1972 she had changed her name to Turiyasangitananda, and left her secular life behind, moving to California. In 1975, she opened the Vedantic Centre. This spiritual awakening would define much of the rest of her life, her music notwithstanding. This show explores Alice's later recordings, which are deeply influenced by Hinduism and Eastern spirituality, featuring bhajan chants, and new age influence.

Part Chimp

NTS aired an episode dedicated to the music of Part Chimp on 16 June 2025. Part Chimp has been played over 30 times on NTS, first on 5 March 2016. Part Chimp's music has been featured on 23 episodes.

Part Chimp is an English rock band from Camberwell in London formed by Tim Cedar (vocals and guitar), Jon Hamilton (a.k.a. Drumm Chimp) (drums) of Ligament and Nick Pryor (who left the band after their first record) in 2000. Current line-up includes Iain Hinchliffe (guitar) and Tracy Bellaries (bass). They play rock music with elements of noise. Both on record and live, Part Chimp have a reputation for sounding extremely loud. Comparable to a jam session between Sonic Youth and Lighting Bolt, these UK noise mongers obviously enjoy pushing sonics to the max. Their records are released in the UK, Europe & Japan by Rock Action Records and in the US by Monitor Records.

The group has performed on a John peel BBC session and XFM radio.
