A snippet of the wide genre of 80s South African 'bubblegum' music, a sound defined by rattling drum machines blended with the sharp synths of disco and SA genres like marabi and Afro-jazz.
This is a mix by the LA-based DJ/Producer extraordinaire Jon Trini as we prepare for Junkyard Jouvert in Los Angeles on Saturday June 21. This mix features new Bouyon from Dominica as well as records from the region that are directly inspired by the Bouyon sound. Enjoy!

BAP!! ("Brigada Anti Polizialak") started in 1984 in Andoain, Basque Country (Spain). In 1986 they recorded a demo tape and four tracks for the famous compilation "Condenados a Luchar" next to another punk-rock bands like MCD, Zer Bizio? or Danba. In t1988 BAP!! recorded its debut album "Bidehuts eta etxe huts" with twelve tracks of old-school hardcore punk like Minor Threat with a quality sound quite dirty. Until 1992 when the band made its best album called "Zuria Beltzez" a kind of modern hardcore with influences of funk, metal, reggae, etc. In 1994 BAP!! recorded a new album entitled "Lehertzeko Garaia" which is also rich in musical influences but is not so good like its predecesor "Zuria Beltzez". BAP!! was also remarked to write intelligent lyrics far from Oi! / punk topics and more near to Minor Threat / Fugazi ideas. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAP!! https://myspace.com/piztia/photos http://www.esanozenki.com/index.php/en/component/muscol/B/10-bap http://www.discogs.com/artist/1077581 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXBxFw4k7jg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EFIvQhaAXs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ITHfkzKJKk
