2 hour bi-monthly excursions into sound and dissonance. Music label with John T. Gast. Regular guest selections from friends and affiliates.
For someone who wasn't born there, Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann might be the most Detroit guy to ever exist. Moving to the motor city from LA at only three weeks old, he has never "truly" left since. His music channels the musical legacy of Black Detroit – transplanted Delta blues, gospel, Motown and Fortune, Stevie Wonder, the Electrifying Mojo and the Belleville Three – with an unassailable verve. His dust-spackled opus "Silentintroduction" has hummed continously in the background of house music since its release in 1997, inspiring generations of producers. A vocalist and lyricist with an ardent cult following, Katie Jane Garside (born July 8, 1968) fronted the band Daisy Chainsaw and sang guest vocals for Test Dept.. She reappeared in the late 90s as the lead singer of Queen Adreena, an independent rock band from London.
In 2005, she released a solo album, entitled 'Lullabies In A Glass Wilderness' under the pseudonym 'Lalleshwari'. This was initially made available on her website as a CD + DVD pack, limited to 300 copies, the first 100 being signed and numbered by Garside herself. The DVD contained films directed by James Sutton, who has previously created artwork for Queen Adreena, Maple Bee, Huski, and Vertigo Angels. About six months later, a slightly different CD digipack version of the album was released on her website. This version included new songs 'Marybell (Rides To Town On A Pig)' and 'In The Birdcage Part.1,' but left off 'Play For Us.' The arrangements for some of the songs are notably different on this version.
More recently, Garside has begun collaborating with guitarist Chris Whittingham, in a folk project called Ruby Throat. As Ruby Throat, they have released four albums together between 2007 and 2017.
In 2020, she released Geiger Counter as Liar, Flower, Ruby Throat's rock counterpart.
Her sister, Melanie Garside (aka Maple Bee), also has a career in music, and has collaborated and performed with Katie Jane and Queen Adreena.
Hole frontwoman Courtney Love once cited Katie Jane as the first real "Riot Grrrl," along with Kat Bjelland of Babes in Toyland and herself.
