Charif Megarbane

Charif Megarbane hosted a guest show on 8 May 2025. Charif Megarbane has been played on NTS over 10 times, featured on 14 episodes and was first played on 17 January 2023.

With a DIY ethos, Charif Megarbane has crafted an inimitable style of music, a melting pot of global sounds that effortlessly glides between 1960s Italian Library, Middle Eastern psychedelia, afro-beat and hip-hop breaks. Megarbane refers to this as “Lebrary” music: a vision of and from Lebanon and the Mediterranean expressed through the kaleidoscopic lens of library music. The innovative instrumentals draw on a wide-range of musical influences, the fuzz-drenched riffs of Blaxploitation films and the percussive rhythms of West African funk to Lebanese bellydance psych and 1960s European cinema scores – all reimagined through a contemporary lens. Equally influenced by Ennio Morricone Ziad Rahbani David Axelrod, the music also finds deep connections with Ahmed Malek and Issam Hajali, both released by Habibi Funk.

Charif has released over 100 albums under various monikers on his own Hisstology imprint, offering an experimental music diary of his late-night improvised sessions, recorded across Beirut, Nairobi, Paris, London and Lisbon – the cities he’s called home.

Megarbane's latest album - released under the moniker Cosmic Analog Ensemble - is the critically-acclaimed Expo Botanica released in '22 on Hisstology Records. Uncut saluted it as “an experimental, wide-eared talent”, also described as “gloriously bonkers” (Mojo) and “a triumph of creativity” (Electronic Sound).
