Andrea Lucchesini: In 1994 a jury of international musicologists awarded Lucchesini the prestigious Accademia Chigiana Prize and, in 1995, the Critics Prize F. Abbiati.
In July 2001 Andrea Lucchesini gave the premiere of the new Piano Sonata by Luciano Berio at the Zurich Festival, followed by performances in major European concert series throughout France, Spain, Portugal, Holland and the UK. His close association with Luciano Berio began when Lucchesini performed his piano concerto Echoing Curves throughout the world, subsequently recording it for BMG with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer in 1995. Two years later he recorded the Berg and Schönberg Concertos with the Dresden Staatskapelle and Giuseppe Sinopoli for Teldec.
Andrea Lucchesini is also deeply committed to chamber music and regularly participates in the Lockenhaus and Moritzburg Chamber Music Festivals. He is also Artistic Director of Chamber Music Encounters festival in Turin where he presents rare programmes under the aegis of Turin Unione Musicale with the cellist Mario Brunello. From September 2005 he is the Artistic Director of the Chamber Music Festival in Florence.
Andrea Lucchesini has appeared with the Houston Symphony, Budapest Philharmonic, Orchestre di Santa Cecilia Rome and in autumn 2001 he made his debut in Australia with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He has toured with the Arditti Quartet, with a Berio / Shostakovich program.
In spring 2004 Andrea Lucchesini concluded his performances of the complete cycle of Beethoven Piano Sonatas and Concertos in the major Italian concert series. He has since given recitals and concerts in Paris, Budapest, Barcelona, Valencia and with orchestras in Italy, Spain and Hungary. Recent engagements in the UK include Beethoven concertos with the London Philharmonic conducted by Vladimir Jurowski and BBC Philharmonic conducted by Edward Downes.
He has recorded for EMI and BMG and recent releases include Beethoven’s Piano Sonata cycle for the Stradivarius label.
