The Zoo

The Zoo

The Zoo has been played on NTS in shows including The Early Bird Show w/ PAM, featured first on 6 April 2023. Songs played include This Is Really The Zoo Plus Two.

There is more than one artist using this name:

1) The Zoo were a psychedelic rock band formed in 1968 by Murphy ‘Chocolate Moose’ Carfagna, the band also featured Mike Flicker on drums and Howard Leese on lead guitar both of whom went on to join Heart, Leese as guitarist and Flicker as the band’s producer.

Originally released on Ed Cobb’s Sunburst label (Sunburst 7500), this little psych treasure was reissued by Radioactive Records.

The Zoo captures the sound of the late 60s, crossing Strawberry Alarm Clock pop tracks like Have You Been Sleepin' and Get Some Beads with harder rockers like the title track.

Leese has captured the SF sound of Quicksilver perfectly making this for a fun listen.

The album, rare at the time, has now become a major collectors item.

2) The Zoo was a side project formed in the early 90's by Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood.

The group included members such as guitarist Billy Thorpe, and singer Bekka Bramlett. Bekka would later become a member of Fleetwood Mac for their 1995 album, "Time".

3) The Zoo are a Dutch Progressive Rock band.

4) The Zoo are also a Filipino rock band, previously led by Arnel Pineda, who now is the lead singer of the American band Journey.

5) The Zoo are also an alternative rock band from Lisboa, Portugal with Victor Ventura on guitar, Sandra TheZoo on keyboards, Emanuel Ramalho on drums and Luís Vieira on vocals. The band released their debut album in 2013 called Arena 2.0. They sing in the Portuguese language and are influenced by Depeche Mode and New Order among others.

There is also at least 1 more unknown group named The Zoo represented here.
