Zakiya (Cox) is an African-American female singer her full name is Zakiya Shalai Cox, who was born in Brooklyn, NY In 1992. She was the winner of Hal Jackson's Talented Teens International talent contest, That would allow Young minority women a Chance to display their talents before the world, an opportunity denied them at the time.

Zakiya Cox went on to win the judges approval at the world famous Apollo Theatre in New York City during her Amateur Night performance.Zakiya was sign brought to Ric Wake's Production company as part of a girl group Faces by Producer Shedrick Guy and she did a cover of Michael Jackson's I Wanna Be Where You Are In 1997, she scored a minor 2nd R&B hit single with "My Love Won't Fade Away" on DV8/A&M Records. Her self-titled debut album "Zakiya" also included her first R&B Hit single "Love Like Mine" which was released in 1996, as well as "When The Last Teardrop Falls" in late 1997 ,early-98.(which would later be covered and Re-Sung by the R&B trio Blaque). She would soon record her follow-up album, but that project would be shelved during the corporate restructuring of A&M Records in the late 1990s. One 12 inch vinyl of her follow up Single "I Like" was released and can be found now on E-bay, A EP of a few of the songs was released to radio DJs and can be found on eBay every now and then. Zakiya's twin sister Naeemah Jamilah past away in the wound as their mother was proceeding Birth. She went into labor after the last time Zakiya's twin was unborn. Zakiya has moved on with her life and has eventually gotten married, had children and gave her Recording career a rest as her life faded into obscurity.She currently is residing in Pennsylvania.
