The Visitor

The Visitor has been played on NTS in shows including Homunkuli w/ Lena Willikens, featured first on 29 February 2024. Songs played include Installation I (Gudrun Gut Extended Remix).

There are at least two bands/acts called The Visitor.

a 1980s post-punk / new wave band from The Netherlands

a rock band from Chicago, Illinois, United States

an ambient/cosmische/modular-synths artist from Düsseldorf, Germany (keyboarder of Ai)

Active from 1981 to 1988, The Visitor were a Dutch post-punk / new wave band from the town of Sneek, The Netherlands. Hailing from the province of Friesland, they were considered to be part of the so-called 'Friese Bries' ('Frisian Breeze'), a crop of avant-garde new wave bands from the province. They released most of their music on the infamous Top Hole Records that was regarded as the home base of the movement.

The Visitor rose from the ashes of folk bands such as Haggis, Manacle Trust and, most importantly, Nighttime Visitor, who released one album, Visitor (1980). Members of these folk bands formed The Visitor in 1981 and started making post-punk.

The group released two cassette albums (1982's Ecoline and 1985's Black And Gold), three studio LPs (Liquid And Crystalline in 1983, Transparent World in 1984 and This Rain Is Blood in 1987), plus a live double LP (Live, 1987) before disbanding. There were one-off reunion performances in 1999 and 2007.

A few short years ago, two bands with suburban roots began making waves in the Chicago music world: Matthew and The Strategy Game arrived on the scene and laid the groundwork for a post 1990’s sound and vision to emerge in Chicago rock. Epic chord progressions, powerhouse vocals and metronome perfect beats began to define the sound of each band. The music world took notice.

Fast forward to 2008 when Mike Nesbitt, from The Strategy Game, and James Scott, from Matthew, reconnected and rekindled a childhood friendship forged in little league baseball. Plans to merge the rhythm section of Matthew with the guitar and vocal section of The Strategy Game materialized. The Visitor soon began writing original material.

Equal parts Queen, The Pixies, Jawbox, and early Radiohead, the sound of The Visitor can be described as arena power rock with pop and punk roots. The interweaving guitars of Joe Nesbitt and Mike Ortiz set the mood as Matt Sumpter’s drums and James Scott’s bass form a solid bed for the music to explode into the listeners ears.

After over a year of recording, tweaking, rewriting, and recording some more, The Visitor released their first album [album artist=The Visitor=Codes[/album]. Since the albums release, they have been steadily promoting the band and album, performing live, building and nurturing their fan base, and writing new material.

Solo moniker for Frank Bauer. The painter also plays every kind of keyboard at Düsseldorf neo-krautrock band Ai.
