Mike Vernusky is a composer and sound artist. He writes music for concertized, theatrical, and filmic environments, primarily through the use of electronic media and live performance.
Vernusky has received commissions and awards from the Digital Art Awards in Tokyo, MATA, Atlantic Center for the Arts, June in Buffalo and El Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes Sonoras. He is presenting his talk, Embodying the Future of Electronic Music at the EMS 2010 Festival in Shanghai, followed by the release of his latest solo album, Music for Film and Electro-Theatre on Quiet Design Records.
Mike Vernusky is published on MIT Press and Quiet Design. He currently resides in Austin.
As an audiovisual composer, Mike Vernusky’s works have screened in a variety of venues around the world including Tribeca, the Los Angeles IFF, Seoul Film Festival, SXSW, UN Conference in Rome, and Rotterdam IFF. He is a frequent collaborator with experimental filmmakers Scott Nyerges and Daniel Maldonado, both of NYC.His ongoing electro-theatre collaborations with playwright Greg Romero have resulted in a handful of works for actors and electronic sound. Their performance ensemble, The Electric Wolf, is being launched in the summer of 2010.
As a constant advocate of new music, Vernusky serves as co-curator with Cory Allen for the record label Quiet Design. Currently celebrating their 17th release, the roster of composers consists of 40 artists from around the world.
