Magpie Instinct has been played on NTS shows including A Colourful Storm, with Now You Know Better first played on 15 July 2024.

Magpie Instinct are a 5 piece Indie Pop band from Cardiff formed in the Autumn of 2011. Combining a love for guitar-pop melodies, catchy choruses and dreamily driven soundscapes with witty confessions of melancholy, spite and resentment to produce a triumphantly bittersweet sound.

Born from a love of the wit and idiosyncratic sound of The Smiths, the unending invention of The Beatles and the defiant glamour of the early Manic Street Preachers, three school friends, Tim (guitar), Jon (bass) and Hugh (guitar) formed Magpie Instinct in mid 2011. Pop percussion perfectionist Kate was added in the late summer on drums along with housemate Lois on keys. By September they were a solid unit producing big indie pop tunes, drawing on their influences, from Cocteau Twins to Foals to Pulp to The Las.
