Pieter van Dijk (born January 2, 1958 in Rheden) is a Dutch organist and professor at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
Life: Pieter van Dijk studied at the Music Academy in Arnhem with Bert Matter and deepened his organ playing with Gustav Leonhardt, Marie-Claire Alain and Jan Raas. Since 1989 he has held a professorship for organ at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and since 1995 a professorship for organ, improvisation and methodology at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. He also has guest professorships at various European universities.
At the Laurenskerk in Alkmaar he is organist of the famous organ by Van Hagerbeer (1645) / Franz Caspar Schnitger (1725) and the late Gothic organ by Jan van Covelens (Johann von Koblenz) (1511). Since 2004 he has also been the city organist of Alkmaar.
Pieter van Dijk is also active as an organ expert. For example, he was involved in the reconstruction of the organ of Sankt Katharinen in Hamburg, in the restoration of the organs in Olkusz and Mölln and in the construction of the Monteverdi organ.
Van Dijk has made several CD recordings of organ music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, but also from the modern era, and from 2017 to 2022 he recorded the entire organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach on 21 CDs. He pursues an international concert career in Europe, the USA and Japan. He won prizes at the international organ competitions in Deventer (1979) and Innsbruck (1986), and in 2013 he was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize. In 2021 he received the Victoriefonds Alkmaar's Oeuvre Prize. Together with Frank van Wijk he is artistic director of the Organ Festival Holland.
