Mr. Orange Undercover

Mr. Orange Undercover has been played on NTS shows including Aloha Got Soul Presents: Home Grown, with She Knows Karate first played on 26 October 2024.

Mr. Orange Undercover is a punk band that formed in 1999 on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Chris Carignan played drums and Jamie Wardlow sung and played bass guitar. The two moved to Oahu and met Max Paguio who joined the band and filled in as the new drummer with Carignan switching to guitar. While on Oahu, Carignan performed in local band, Fever Boner, on lead guitar. The band had one release - a live set from a performance on the University Of Hawaii's own KTUH, Monday Night Live series. Mr. Orange Undercover released one full-length album through Hawaiian Express Records. They were also featured on several different compilations by the same label as well as other record labels. Mr. Orange Undercover first appeared on the “Punkwatch” compilation released by Hawaiian Express with the track “She knows Karate.” During the months of April and May of 2000, the track was rewritten and re-recorded for the band’s debut album, “Go Punk Yourself!” Later, Mr. Orange Undercover did a split live record with fellow local Hawaii band, Grapefruit, for the Punk Party Series by Hawaiian Express. The split featured songs off of “Go Punk Yourself!” as well as new material. In 2001, the band relocated to San Diego, CA. In 2003, Mr. Orange Undercover released a self-titled album dubbed the “White Album,” with all new material. The song “Point of View,” is a revision of an older tune, “Thinking of You.” The new song features some different rhythmic arrangements and a whole new theme, but the original melody is still intact. Another revised song is “Do You Care,” featured originally on the Hawaiian Express compilation, “Rock Album of the Year.” Other new songs include the instrumental, “Sonrisas Y Lagrimas,” and the rock ballad, “Can't Wait To Believe You.” Later that year, Mr. Orange Undercover earned a nomination for Punk Album of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards. The band members later met and recruited Justin Ternes to take over on bass duties so that Wardlow could concentrate on vocals. Now a four-piece, Mr. Orange Undercover recorded a new song, “Is This What You Came For?” and a music video for the same song. The video was directed by Franck Deron and produced by MEDIAMILITIA. In 2006, Mr. Orange Undercover disbanded. Since then, the members of Mr. Orange Undercover have gone on to pursue other projects in both California and Hawaii. Carignan and Ternes are currently in the progressive rock outfit, Lands on Fire, in San Diego while Paguio is living in Hawaii as the drummer for alternative rock group, 82Fifty. Wardlow continued on as a vocalist, lending his unique stylings in indie rock band, Brave Monster. Currently, Brave Monster is inactive. According to Mr. Orange Undercover's MySpace, as of March 2010, reunion shows are in the works.
